Hilltop Garden 2010
This is a spring photo from last year. I have some more bulbs and more plants in front since then. The river of daffodil bulbs have also filled in nicely as you can see in the next two pictures from 2010.
For next year, I think I want to work in moving the white bulbs. They just seem to detract from all the color. I have another bed under the deck that is mostly an all white garden which they might find to be their new home. I also need to fill in a tulip circle with more bulbs. The deer ate the foliage in early 2009 and they did not recover in 2010. What other changes would you suggest?

More Species Tulips
As April is about to end so are the tulips. I can believe how fast spring is flying by this year. Here are a couple of varieties on species tulips that I added last fall. They are suppose to be more deer resistant, but come to find out the bunnies love them.

Multipling Daffodils
These daffodils have been in the ground for three years. Every year there are more and more blooms. It is starting to feel like they should be dug up and spaced more. A task I fear doing as I always manage to slice them in half with the shovel. Perhaps it does not even need to be done. How often do you split your multiplying bulbs?

Loving These!
These Greigii tulips are great! I am loving the color on these. It is such a striking combination. Need to go back into my records (box of garden stuff in the workshop) and find what they are called.

Winter Sown Update
Almost everything is up and about ready to be planted out. The Columbine was the last to germinate, but I got a good germination rate on them. These were the only ones that did not work for me.
11) Oriental Poppy Mix Papaver bracteatum only a few came up
15) Penstemon only 3 came up
16) Torenia Baillonii none, but the seed was three years old.
I need to find permanent homes for these as Thorny Guy wants to claim the mini greenhouse for the tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants.

Turkey Season
I have been seeing turkeys everywhere! Today there were about 8 girls and one big Tom in our backyard.
On another note, Thorny guy was busy digging holes this weekend for six new trees he is getting on Tuesday. You can see the tarps and the piles of dirt in the picture. Two each of pear, plum and peach.

Greigii Tulips
These are two year old Greigii Tulips. They are leggier the second year, which is very confusing since all other tulips are shorter since we did not have the rain. Also to add to confusion, the deer/rabbits ate these up this year and for the most part left the regular tulips alone. These are suppose to be deer resistance.

Lone primula
Two years ago I bought a whole bunch of these. All died except this one. After waiting two years for it to bloom, I can not say that I am a fan. Looks like a globe bellflower, which for me is easier to grow. I might just give up on primulas for now.

Seeds
I have been less enthusiastic about seed starting this year. Perhaps because direct sowing and winter sowing just seem easier. Thorny Guy though has started his peppers, onions, eggplants, okra, and my tomatoes. They are down in the basement this year under lights to keep them away from Inch Worm's grasp.

Veggie Garden
The garlic is sprouting! Looks like all three varieties made it through the winter.
Onions which were stored in the workshop also made it through the winter. They were too small to eat and we forgot about them. Well now they are in the ground again, sure to get bigger.
Carrots and peas are planted also! Wow it feels like we are actually ahead of schedule in the garden. I am sure though that feeling will not last long.
